Netflix & Chill Ft. The Plague

It’s 2020. You’re single and ready to mingle from a safe 1.5 metres away, your freshly sanitized hand hasn’t been held for a full 5 months, and you’re sick of the Government mandated dry spell. Short of hanging out a window screaming “HELLO, ARE YOU LOOKING FOR A WIFE?” at passers-by, there aren’t very many options for writing your love story during a global pandemic. It’s no surprise that dating app usage has spiked in isolation.

If you managed to navigate the influx of ‘If COVID-19 doesn’t take you out, can I?’ messages on Hinge, you may have actually found yourself talking to someone you like. But how do you date when you can’t see each other in person?

Zoom drinks: Stick with the classics Zoom drinks are a chance to touch base and see if you vibe with someone in a real conversation, or if you only liked them for their GIFs.

Netflix and Chill: Version 2.0 Back in the good old days (you know, January) nothing said modern romance quite like Netflix and Chill. Luckily, you can still force someone to watch Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again with you. Pop some popcorn, sync up your Netflix, and join them on FaceTime. Almost as good as the real thing, except this way, you might actually get to see the end of the movie.

Cook together: Make Gordon Ramsay proud Show off your cooking skills, or learn from your date whilst you both try and prepare the same food over video chat. While they can’t be there to wipe flour off your cheek in slow motion, there’s nothing sexier than watching someone chop an onion really fast.

Craft together: Draw me like one of your French girls Put those isolation craft skills to work and channel your inner Van Gogh to create a portrait of each other whilst you chat, and then dramatically reveal your masterpieces at the end.

Let’s be honest though; no one is feeling their best right now. How can we make a connection with someone else when we’re feeling disconnected from ourselves?

If trying to find your soulmate during a global pandemic feels more like a burden than a priority, then isolation might be the time to date yourself instead. Whether it’s yoga, a face mask, an orgasm, or all three at once if you’re really determined, take a break from the hunt. You might not find The One this lockdown (hey, there’s always next pandemic!) but you can find what helps you feel like yourself again.

Not every swipe is a love story, but your happy ending could start here. Fall in love with yourself and shop the Self Love Collection by Vush. Save 50% off your first purchase with promo code TAKE50, and save yourself from another Zoom date.

When you can’t touch anyone else, touch yourself.

PS. Sam from Tinder, if you’re reading this, please stop asking me to come over, we’re in a pandemic.
