SPOTLIGHT: Nastia Surmava (@nastiasurmava)

Living a life we are all truly envious of, we digitally sat down with Nastia Surmava, star of Below Deck and lover of self love, to find out how she went from medicine to sailing the seas, and why she loves us as much as we love her!

With a passion for sharing her self love journey openly and honestly with nothing but pride, Nastia hopes to inspire people to start exploring themselves, and to help break the stigma around self pleasure - a mission she shares with VUSH!

Obviously first things first, we had to get into how she managed to snag one of the coolest looking jobs out there! She told us that one of the main reasons she started her journey in the yachting industry was that “I was tired of living my life the way other people thought I should”. Totally understandable when a passion for travel and seeing the world has taken over your life! After leaving her old life and career in medicine and opting for the boat shoes, she has completely inspired us to step out of our comfort zones.

We’re green with envy, and we just had to know how she got the gig of a lifetime, telling us she saw the opportunity and jumped at it. “When I had the opportunity to contact a casting director, I made my pitch and told them that I would be the best addition to their show!” Okay, yes! That is the self confidence we need! “I saw something I wanted and I went for it”, taking the plunge into a completely different world and career, we should all take a page out of that book!

2020 was a rocky year for everyone, but Nastia did something we all realised we needed to do; practice more self love. “I think the best thing I did for myself last year, besides start using VUSH products, was get myself a therapist. I was always someone who scoffed at therapy and never thought I needed it because I was “strong”. Boy, was I wrong. I could not recommend therapy enough, even if you don’t think you need it...trust me, you need it.” She also went on to tell us how despite turning up her nose, therapy ended up being 100x more empowering than she ever thought, being able to “face your emotions head on and speak completely openly with someone who is unbiased”. We love the self discovery and growth!

We always want people to embrace #MoreSelfLove, so we asked Nastia how she encourages those around her. The number one thing she stressed to us was that it is so important to start that first conversation “with your female friends and family...and male too!” Telling us  that it is “important for women to speak openly about self love and self care. It’s very powerful to start these conversations”

We absolutely love seeing our VUSH babes all over the globe and seeing Nastia taking us around to all the best places in the world! Follow Nastia at @nastiasurmava and shop our ROSE 2 to practice what Nastia is preaching!

P.S. Nastia, let us know next time you’re heading to The Leaning Tower of Pisa, we’d love to tag along! 🙊💕
