Discover Stephanie’s favourite acts of self love, her feels towards the societal norms we grew up with and still face today, and what she really thinks of our suckiest product, the Empress!
What is your favourite self love practice?
Prioritizing sleep - when I spend the time to rest my body well, I find that so many other things line up. I’m more likely to eat well, to go to the gym, to use my work time productively, and be a better partner. Plus my skin looks a lot nicer! It sets me up for success to care for myself like that.
The thing that surprised you most about the Empress is...
It’s intensity!
Why is normalizing female self pleasure important to you?
We live in a society where women have historically been told to be subservient, to prioritize taking care of others through sacrificing ourselves, to be small and quiet and not take up space. I refuse to subscribe to any of that. Every person deserves happiness and pleasure, regardless of gender. A society functions best when every member is loved and cared for, and that includes making room to love and care for ourselves!
What are your three tips to discover and own your self worth?
First, I would say that separating your self from your job is key. We, as humans, are more than our productivity - our worth is not defined by what we do or how much money we make. Making peace with who you are as a human and realizing your value outside of what you make is so important! I also think that finding things that bring you joy, that you do just for yourself, help a person to stand in their worth - a creative endeavour, or a form of movement that helps ground you in your body, an intellectual pursuit - anything that makes you feel whole and genuinely yourself.
And lastly I know that I felt so much more confident in my self worth when I began to acknowledge and accept that my body, and how my body looks, also does not determine my value. Society places a lot of weight on this, particularly for women, and making peace with my body, loving my body, allowing it to receive pleasure and being thankful for what it can do has been instrumental to owning my self worth.
